[Note from Steve to all readers of this blog: Happy Thanksgiving! We have a lot to be thankful for today, not the least of which is the thwarting of the nefarious plans of the FPA, aka “Fascist Party of America” aka Good Ole Piranhas, to destroy American democracy…at least for the time being. That’s worthy of a toast at all our holiday dinners to all of us sane Americans and the wonderful election workers who did their honest jobs despite threats and intimidation!]
That midterm jinx for first-term presidents has now been shown to not always apply. That’s not hard to understand because the opposing party in this case is now dominated by extremists. In other words, enough Republican voters—they have yet to prove they’re true conservatives—and many independents do not want to destroy democracy in the US and turn the country into a fascist state.
While this might be only a temporary return to sanity, the 2022 midterms should have been a slap in Il Duce’s imperial scowl and ruin his chances in 2024. It wasn’t, at least not yet, but the FPA (Fascist Party of America) will follow him at its own peril. DJT, that narcissistic sociopath, is now the last sitting president with a low approval rating whose party got killed in a midterm election; he’s a big-time loser, and Biden and the Dems are winners—not big-time, but close enough. And DJT is at least partially responsible for ending that jinx.
Trumps personal choices did poorly; he doomed Oz in the battle against Fetterman, although that snake-oil salesman Oz certainly had enough baggage to lose that senate seat by himself—Oz was a flawed candidate from the beginning, as were all those who Trump supported. (The Republican Oz beat in the primary was the better candidate, but Trump doesn’t care about that—it’s all about him, not the candidates.) Even Kari Lake, while still blathering on and on about fraud in her own election, wasn’t a successful banner-carrier for the FPA’s fuehrer.
Ron DeSantis improved his credentials and should now be considered a worthier candidate for the 2024 FPA nomination than DJT. Of course, DeSantis is still a card-carrying member of the FPA, i.e. he’s also a complete fascist, but he avoided brown-nosing Trump in his landslide victory in the election for Florida governor. Some pundits say that he’ll at least be Trump’s running mate in 2024. They’re wrong. DJT will choose someone like the true brown-noser Kari Lake who gets behind him and puckers up all the time. Although she still reeks of fire and brimstone and should take that slow boat back across the river Styx to return to fascist hell, she’d be a pretty bauble for Il Duce to dangle on the FPA’s 2024 ticket. (Will Melania diapprove?)
I could go through all the states and up and down ballots to show that DJT, that wannabe dictator, negatively affected the FPA’s fortunes. (Paul Ryan, Chris Christie, and a few other saner FPA members have stated that, some rather bluntly.) The FPA surely must be licking its wounds as it tries to regroup for 2024 just as much as the Dems can breathe a sigh of relief that the 2022 results were better than expected. Both need to recalculate because both parties made serious mistakes that could come back to haunt them in the presidential election. (In particular, the Dems need to work on their messaging. And “saving democracy” might fail them as a message in 2022, especially if the FPA’s candidate is not Trump. More on that next week!)
And Biden is wrong: As long as MAGA-maggot Mad McCarthy and the other fascists in the House kiss DJT’s ass, the octogenarian shouldn’t rest easy. The Dems still have to worry about the FPA’s evil vision for America. I certainly do! (And will Biden have the energy to stand up to them?)
I did my civic duty, but in NJ there was no senate or governor’s race. Our able Dem rep, ex-USN chopper pilot Mikie Sherrill, trampled her local MAGA-maggot opponent, who’s a complete idiot; the Essex County administrator, who managed so well the county’s Covid response, also won; and there was a local school initiative that I voted for as well—it passed. In the tri-state area, Lamont was reelected governor in Connecticut; MAGA maggot Lee Zeldin failed to become NY’s governor, although he turned all of Long Island into essentially a state of the deep south; and Dems in general performed less well there than in the rest of the country. (I’ll avoid Long Island, Staten Island—always reliably Archie Bunker country with a rep of being the HQ of local mafiosos—and several upstate districts in NY state now like the plague because right-wing haters, bigots, homophobes, and racists now control them and feel enabled, making those areas like the worst red states in the FSA (that’s the Fascist States of America where the FPA runs everything).
The Dems could have won the House. Where did they really fail, given that the FPA was so bent on self-destruction? Exhuberant conceit in New York State! While pundits fault Lee Zeldin for the Dems’ fiasco in deep-blue NY state, or even the NYC mayor for expressing his worries about crime—Zeldin’s anti-crime message resonated, especially in far-right Long Island and Staten Island—what really put the nail in the Dem candidates’ coffins in NY State was the excessive gerrymandering they tried to pull off. Anyone could see that was anti-democratic horseshit, and a judge correctly slapped their hands. They never recovered. The Dems’ campaign people deserved what they got in NY state! And, unfortunately, NY state is now responsible for the Dems losing the US House. Lessons for 2024?
As a final personal observation, my take on hurricane Nicole is that it’s both a smack-in-the-face against MAGA maggot Ron DeSantis for being such a conceited ass—no humility now in that Florida governor’s mansion—and that hurricane is also a reminder to Trump the Chump that his endorsements of MAGA maggot candidates were responsible for his party’s poor showing (and it is his FPA until McConnell and McCarthy kick him out of the party)—too bad Mar-a-Lago wasn’t destroyed!
Yet nothing much has changed. The country’s still divided, so much so that a civil war between its fascists and saner citizens is still a distinct possibity. Perhaps the 2022 results only postpone the inevitable as fascism continues its inexorable march in the US and worldwide. Do you see the glass half full or half empty now? I see fascists everywhere trying to jerk away my glass! (Not paranoia if it’s true!) But for now, America’s fascist takeover is postponed for another two years, although the fascists will be scheming behind closed doors. Stay tuned.
One thing is certain, though: After these election results, there’s absolutely no way the MAGA maggots in Congress can break Biden’s veto. Have your pen ready, Mr. President! Mad McCarthy is waiting to impeach you and your cabinet members, Social Security and Medicare will be under siege, a ban on all abortions will be in the works, and all your good legislative results will be unmercilessly attacked. You can be sure that’s the FPA’s plan for the next two years: No governing, just attack politics!
