Yes, Virginia, Christians can be fascists!

One of the best scenes in the slew of exposes about that “f&^%ing moron” that traditional publishers have released in recent years appeared in Michael Cohen’s book Disloyal. For those who read this blog and have never read Cohen’s book, let me state that I know a great scene when I read one because I am a writer (and can also state that this book is quite well written!).

In this scene, a bunch of evangelical leaders visit Il Duce in Trump Tower to lay hands on him (he wasn’t yet president, so he hadn’t made his appearance with the Bible across from Lafayette Square or begun to sell his version; and he, not New York state, still owned Trump Tower); God’s most holy representatives’ idea was to bless their future president, you know. I almost died laughing; while maybe unintentional, this was comedy writing at its very best! Thank you, Michael Cohen! Our ex-president (may he forever remain so!) is an extreme germaphobe, much more OCD about it and far less moral than that famous San Francisco detective Monk. In addition, Narcissus le Grand is has violated all ten commandments, and made Christians, Jews, and Muslims create a lot more to describe his more modern sins. It’s laughable how far fascists pretending to be Christians will go.

Fascism, of course, has no real respect for religion or any other moral system. Religious sects, strict Catholics and radical evangelicals in particular, use religion to justify their fascist proclivities: “We have the power of the Almighty on our side!” For them, morality doesn’t matter; the Bible doesn’t matter; and the Almighty will always forgive their sins, no matter what!

Sure, fascists of all stripes (these are skunk’s stripes, of course) pretend to be Christians. Or Jews. Or Muslims. Whatever. Many Catholic dioceses in America are led by fascists and willingly join forces with unsavory characters like Franklin Graham and his evangelical hordes in all too obvious attempts to make everyone believe as they pretend to believe. In that sense, they’re no different than any radical and violent Islamic ayatollah or Buddhist priest’s persecution of those defined as unfaithful. Or a Jewish settler stealing land from his Arab neighbors? And vice versa?

And this leads me to consider yet another error our Founding Founders made: The First Amendment does not go far enough to create a secular society. No political function or official government ceremony should ever begin with a prayer! Religion should not be part of government. A true democracy should give its citizens the right to believe in any religion…or none. And punish anyone who tries to do that. Period.

Narcissus le Grand has tried to make himself into a messianic leader by turning whatever smattering of religion he has into a clown show. I can’t imagine how any person who claims to be religious can support such a buffoon. But there’s a lot I can’t understand about all those MAGA monkeys who don’t seem to have a shred of common sense and are willing to follow DJT over the cliff and destroy our democracy!
