Why do we need a US Senate?

Like many people (maybe Mr. Biden among them, although he’s too much a coward to say it), I’m fed up with the damn Senate! That’s not just because GOP fascists are attacking a SCOTUS nominee who has far more creds than anyone Trump and the Good Ole Piranhas have recently supported, all fascists.

You’ve seen words in this blog to the effect that the Founding Fathers made a huge mistake when they created the US Senate. Whatever their reasons (I believe most of them just reflected their distrust of democracy because they had aristocratic proclivities), why not get rid of it now?

In recent times, the Senate has become the haven for bigots, haters, racists, and traitors. Cruz, Graham, Hawley, and other Good Ole Piranhas are as fascist as they come. Even McConnell is a fascist and racist, and all he does is sit on his ass and make sure the Dems can do nothing. I think even Biden has given up on bipartisanship in the Senate because Manchin and Sinema have joined the Fascist Party of America, aka the Good Ole Piranhas.

Most European countries have only one house in their parliaments. I refuse to count the House of Lords in the UK because that house’s members are just a bunch of royal SOBs’ gentlemen’s club, doing nothing for the UK. Otherwise, you won’t find anything as useless as the US Senate.

Consider this: All the US Senate does is halt legislation! Whether SCOTUS nominees or bills the majority of Americans want to see passed, they obstruct. There are no policy debates, only blatant and intransigent obstructionism! McConnell wields his power by obstructing. They’re dedicated to demonstrating that democracy can’t work, playing right into autocrats’ contention that authoritarianism is the only way to go. Putin and Xi are proud of these willing collaborators who are traitors to democratic ideals and institutions.

I’ve wondered in this blog if America needs another Civil War in order to quarantine the fascists off in their own country to fester in their fascism. That will definitely be necessary if we don’t get rid of the US Senate, the worst idea the Founding Fathers ever had (the Electoral College is right up there, though). The US Senate doesn’t promote representative democracy, never did, never well. At best it’s an ineffectual debating society. At worst, like now, it’s leading way into the cesspool of fascism. God help us! No US senator ever will.
