One major theme that has appeared from the beginning in this blog has been the rise of fascism in the US and around the world. Rcent events prove that this warning wasn’t alarmist blathering but very real.
The war in Ukraine and the border problem. Even people of good faith are forgetting about the danger to world peace that will occur if Putin manages to destroy Ukraine’s democracy. Of course, people of bad faith, like most of America’s Good Ole Piranhas, want this to occur because they want to destroy US democracy as well…and they love Putin because he can get away with anything.
Their representatives in the US House and Senate tie Ukrainian aid to border security, which is as absurd as it is unwise: They’ve dragged their heels on immigration reform for decades because, as staunch fascists like Greg Abbott have shown, the Piranhas can make a lot of political points by not solving that problem while getting rich exploiting the cheap labor.
And, if that “f&^%ing moron” (ex-SecState Tillerson’s description of you-now-who) gets in the White House again, kiss NATO as it now exists goodbye. This will embolden Putin to keep pursuing his dream of creating a new USSR, and it will embolden Xi to move on Taiwan. America will have a war on two fronts again just like in WWII with the huge difference that the Axis powers (China plus Russia) and the Allied powers (a weakened NATO in Europe) will have nukes. And even if the nukes aren’t used, destroying the planet, you-know-who won’t step forward to save the day like FDR did, you can be sure! (In fact, he might come in on the side of China and Russia!)
Fools who support world fascism. While Russia and China are the two fascist countries that pose the biggest danger to democratic ones, fascism is grabbing hold of the throats of less powerful nations as well. India is at the top of the list, but Israel, most Arab states, and many other so-called European democracies (the Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Turkey, etc.) are in danger of joining the fascist club.
Is it surprising that some US politicians want to get on the fascist bandwagon? The Good Ole Piranhas doddering old fuehrer (there’s evidence that shows he’s more senile than his 2024 opponent) is still a clear and present danger to American democracy, even though he’s stated that he’ll only be a dictator on the first day of his new term,. No sane person believes that his plans for his “retribution administration” won’t go beyond one day. True conservatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger are correct in their assessment that he poses the greatest threat to American democracy in its two-hundred-plus years history.
The attacks on democracy in the US and throughout the free world will be enabled by many institutions as well as many stupid fascist malcontents—SCOTUS will continue to erode people’s rights, especially the right to vote and women’s rights—and technology—AI is a real danger: No one can trust what they see or hear anymore. Fascists like Elon Musk are turning social media into a wasteland. (He recently allowed that conspiracy broadcaster back on X. Sane people, especially advertisers, should abandon these social media sites!)
Fascists can destroy more than democracies. For example, hey care nothing about saving the planet from global warming and climate change, and existential problems created and supported by them hang like Poe’s sharpened pendulum over all of humanity. For example, 1300 attendees at COP28 worked on behalf of the fossil fuel industry and the countries dominating it—Russia and Saudi Arabia, in particular, both completely fascist states. Perhaps there’s some consolation that all the fascists who ignore global warming and climate change will die along with the rest of us. When that occurs, maybe Mother Earth will eventually recover…and breathe a sigh of relief because human beings, especially the fascists among us, would then leave her alone.

Note: I’ll now take a wee vacation from writing this blog. May everyone enjoy this holiday season and think seriously about the US and world’s problems during their time off. I’ll resume this blog on January 4, 2024.
