The Dems dodged a bullet: The economy was on most voters’ minds when they voted in the 2022 midterm elections, but enough realized that holding back that fascist red tide of the FPA was more important. That doesn’t mean the Dems should now sit back and gloat. The economy is still on voters’ minds!
One major part of that worry is inflation, of course. Everything costs more, and salaried workers’ salaries aren’t keeping pace. (The one-percenters are still doing great, if not better with price gouging.) Unfortunaely, the Fed thinks there’s only one knob to control inflation: Interest rates. Simple, right? Wrong! The only thing I can say for a fact is that economists think they understand the economy more than politicians do; the latter seem incapable of managing the economy (and one-percenters don’t care). The politicians in the FPA are notoriously stupid, but the Dems don’t do so well either. But one can hardly blame the latter when the economists can’t seem to agree and fall back on turning that one knob!
Economics is a science, but like most dealing with human behavior, it’s far from being an exact science like chemistry or physics. They call the latter “hard sciences,” a terrible description because it really applies more to economics and psychology—those are truly “hard” in the sense that they’re terribly difficult because they try to study fickle human behavior. And they’re also linked, by the way, which is obvious if you ever watch the stock market, which no one understands either.
I know more about psychology than economics. (I’m an author after all!) Like anyone else, I still know intuitively when the economy is bad, but I can’t do much about it. But I also know Mr. Biden and his cohorts dodged a bullet in the midterms. Yet the parallels with 1930s Germany still remain with us. The economic status of Germany back then led to the Nazis’ takeover. Germans looked for relief. Will that happen in the 21st-century western world, in the US in particular? We now have our own Nazis in the FPA nee GOP (the maiden name of the party before it became the bride of Frankenstein aka Trump). The bullets will keep coming, Mr. Biden, and you and the Dems can only dodge so many because the economic guns are AR-15s.
While I don’t understand the American economy or anyone else’s, certain things can be done—and be assured the FPA will never do them! An obvious one: Stop the price gouging! Every American knows (okay, maybe not that narcissistic sociopath in Florida with the golden toilets!) that supermarket prices are out of control. Everyone knows gas prices are too. Everyone sees prices up everywhere, but they’re not fair prices. Much of the increase in prices in due to big corporations’ price gouging. The big corporations (and petroleum companies are really big and the biggest price-gougers!) see their costs going up too, say by X%, so they take advantage and raise the cost to consumers by 2X and 3X, even 10X%. That’s price gouging, Mr. Biden, and the government can control it. You can’t leave it to class-action lawsuits launched by consumer-protection groups, Mr. Biden! Ignore this problem caused by big corporations at your own peril! You must rein in greedy corporations by going after them! They’re out of control and everyone knows it. The Dems’ failure in doing so will be the FPA’s win in 2024. America’s big corporations are supported by the Nazis in the FPA, just like in 1930s Germany, and we all know how that turned out.
